Temporary Power Solutions for Large Construction Sites: A Phase-by-Phase Plan With MPMC
MPMC GSB-30 hybrid power station deployed on site.
Large construction sites need temporary power that changes with the project: modest loads for offices and welfare during enabling works, heavy and fluctuating loads for cranes, hoists and concrete plant during the main build, and increasingly, charging for electric machinery. Noise limits, emissions targets and fuel logistics add to the challenge. MPMC supplies every element of a construction power system, from super-silent containerised generator sets to battery storage, hybrid power stations, solar lighting towers and mobile chargers, so the plan can evolve phase by phase.
Phase 1: Enabling Works and Site Set-Up
Site offices, welfare cabins and security systems need reliable, quiet power from day one. GSB hybrid power stations combine slide-out solar, LFP storage and a genset in one mobile unit; the GSB-30, for example, delivers 60 kVA with 62.7 kWh of storage and a 2,375 W solar array. In Australia, MPMC GSB stations of 10 kW, 20 kW and 30 kW form a 1.08 MWh all-in-one light, diesel and storage solution for building construction. HSL solar towers, such as the HSL-1500B with 12,000 m² coverage and a trailer rated for 80 km/h, light the site without fuel.
Up to four GSB units fit in a 20-foot container, and their smart EMS starts the genset automatically as demand requires, so welfare and office loads run mostly on solar and battery power.

Phase 2: Main Construction
Super-Silent Containerised Generation
For the heavy-load phase, MPMC supplies containerised super-silent generator sets in parallel. On a 3 MW commercial building project in New Zealand, four 750 kVA units powered by Doosan DP222LC engines with Stamford S5L1D-H4 alternators run in 20HC super-silent containers at 75 dB(A) at 7 m and full load, with DSE8610 load sharing, ABB 1,250 A motorised breakers and 9 kW engine block preheaters.
MPMC’s containerised units are built with a choice of Cummins, Perkins, MTU, Baudouin, Scania and other engines, and scale to very large temporary supplies: a 33.5 MW rental construction project in Saudi Arabia uses 35 Cummins-powered units with Stamford alternators.
Battery Storage for Efficiency and Quiet Hours
HBD-R storage lets the generator run at an efficient load while the battery handles crane and hoist surges, and provides UPS-style backup for safety-critical systems such as cranes, elevators and formwork. During restricted hours the battery carries the site alone: at a UK site where generator operation was permitted from 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday, six HBD-30-60 units powered the site overnight and on Sundays. In Australia, an HBD-R system of 560 kW / 920 kWh supports construction-site carbon reduction.

Phase 3: Electric Machinery and Fit-Out
As electric excavators and loaders join the site, BCH Series mobile BESS chargers deliver DC fast charging from 150 kW on the trailer-mounted BCH-275-200 to 600 kW on the BCH-800-600, reaching full operation within 24 hours. In Norway, a 2 MWh BCH system charges electric construction machinery at a site with no grid access. During fit-out, lighter loads suit HBD-R storage or GB hybrid stations from 10 kVA to 500 kVA.
Each BCH unit can be recharged from the site’s gensets, battery storage or solar arrays and also supplies AC power, from 125 kW on the BCH-275-200 to 500 kW on the BCH-500-1000, for tools and welfare loads.
